Marijuana gives hope, even if science is still catching up
MADISONVILLE, La. When Anthony Guarisco proposed Louisiana’s first medical marijuana bill in 1978, the former state senator never intended to use it himself. He pushed for it after the mother of a child with seizures told him it was the only thing that brought the child relief.
“I didn’t have no idea in my wildest revelry that I would get glaucoma in 2013,” said Guarisco, now 80. Medical marijuana is now approved to treat glaucoma and a number of other conditions in Louisiana.
