A medicinal cannabis expert is calling on New Zealand doctors to “better inform themselves” about cannabis products and how to prescribe them.

New Zealand’s Medicinal Cannabis Scheme is set to be operational in the first quarter of 2020, with regulations made by December this year, according to the Ministry of Health.

Professor Mike Barnes, neurologist and director of education for The Academy of Medical Cannabis in London, will visit New Zealand later this month to host three medicinal cannabis “masterclasses” – training events for healthcare professionals.
